What we try to do here is deal in numbers rather than impressions. What a fixture actually uses, what the camera actually shows, and what the compliance plate actually says. Most of this suburb was plumbed two decades before anybody had to publish those figures, and knowing them changes what is worth doing.

The thing I will not do is invent a saving. People ask what a new fixture will take off the bill and the truthful answer is that it depends on the household. I can tell you what the old one uses and what the new one uses. What you do with those two numbers is yours.

Cherrybrook was built out as a planned suburb through the late 1970s and 1980s. The water labelling scheme began in 2005 and 2006. A great deal of what we do here sits in the gap between those two dates.
Unless a bathroom has been redone, everything in an original house here was made before anybody had to publish a star rating or a consumption figure.
An old single flush cistern was commonly 11 or 12 litres. A modern 4 star dual flush is nominally 4.5 litres full and 3 half.
A cistern passing water into the pan runs continuously, makes no sound and leaves no mess. Food colouring finds it in twenty minutes.
A 3 star head flows no more than 9 litres a minute. Change it and the same hot water tank lasts noticeably longer.
Consistent, and usually sound. A blockage here is more often about what went down the pipe than about the pipe.
An extension or a second bathroom meant new waste cut into the original line, and a badly formed junction collects.
